Nina is 9 years old!

Exactly 9 years ago today, Gary and I received our greatest Christmas present ever: a beautiful little girl! Since then, we celebrate Christmas on the 24th in the evening, and the 25th is dedicated to our lovely Nina’s birthday.

Since our departure, it has been a pleasure to spend lots of time in Nina’s company. A lively little scamp, and (nearly) always smiling, she is able to put us all in a good mood. She can moan a bit during long walks, but as soon as she sees something that interests her, such as a lizard, butterfly, or other creature, and she has forgotten all about her woes. She is also the first to climb up any rock or down into any ravine. And if none of this works, the promise of a chocolate ice cream does the trick!

Despite being tall already, Nina has grown during the trip. Since we have been in South Africa, we have been asked many times whether the kids are twins, and when we tell people that they are 15 months apart, they usually pick Nina as the eldest.

So today we are celebrating on the beach, with a huge chocolate cake. Happy Birthday Dear Quackie! ?xx
